I have now reached the point in the shiny new fandom where I am annoyed about the fact that there's not new fic for me to read every second of the day. or, well. There probably is, but I'm picky. or not even picky, I just don't want to read about Spock. There, I said it! I liked him, but have no interest in reading about his peen.

I am also still having problems with picturing Sulu in fic as John Cho. Like, I was never a big fan of TOS, so when I'm reading fic, I'm all, 'yes yes, McCoy is Karl Urban and Kirk is that blond pretty boy,' so on and so on with no problem. but when it comes to Sulu, there's, like, this sequence in my head that goes along the lines of, 'okay, John Cho is Sulu, but Sulu is Japanese, but John Cho is not = DOES NOT COMPUTE.' because, really. I think John Cho looks so Korean he could be selling Milkis on a restaurant calendar.

I suspect most people don't have this problem. SIGH.

Anyways, I wanted to share these two prompts from st_xi_kink because OMG SOMEBODY NEEDS TO WRITE THEM RIGHT NOW NOW NOW:

1. I first came to Starfleet on the trail of the killers of my father, and for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, have remained as an officer aboard the starship Enterprise.

2. Sirius Black/Leonard McCoy: Sirius falls through The Veil and, poof! All of the sudden he's on the USS Enterprise. Confusion, hilarity, and sexytimes ensue. (in the interest of full disclosure, this one is mine. so, y'know. WRITE IT.)

SERIOUSLY. These need to be written. NEEEEEEEEED.

bah. I still need more ST icons. This one is close enough.

eta: AND OMG THIS: Kirk/Reaper(Karl Urban's character from Doom) On shore leave Kirk runs into a guy who looks a LOT like Bones (can be whatever reason, coincidence, relative) and things happen

But Sulu is meant to be PAN-ASIAN or something, I don't even know but that's what George Takei said so I'm going with it. *g* Plus, I only like imagining the new rebootfolks in sexy positions, dammit!

yah, I'd read that somewhere, and I was all, 'well...okay.' but I still have problems with it in my head. It's like...SIGH. A whole big stupid issue I've been dealing with for years, because a white guy can play an American, a Brit, a German, whatever, and no one blinks an eye, so why shouldn't Asians have the same luxury? But then I think, 'But they don't look the same! It's *different*!', and then there's this lame issue I have with Chinese and Korean people having to pretend to be Japanese (BEEN THERE DONE THAT) and, UGH. I just want to enjoy the sexytimes with everyone else. :(

I totally understand. It IS different! As much awesome as John Cho is as Sulu, I can see how it would twinge every time you see him. sigh. It sucks when there's one thing that wrecks up your enjoyment of a show!

You get some of the more ethnic "white" groups together and we do look different. I mean I no more look Italian than Cho looks Japanese ^^;;


I think also technically, it's never been said in Trek canon that Sulu is 100% Japanese or anything (checked that on memory-alpha and they don't mention it either, which means it most likely is not in any movie of V show). Heck the only canon on that IIRC is Sulu saying he was born in San Francisco. In fact back before VI made 'Hikaru" his canon name, the other choice thrown out by Takei himself was Walter (and yes, for Walter Koenig, which is cute), so not so much Japanese there, again, other than the actor. So I don't think there was any canon reason for the new film to make Sulu Japanese other than the first actor was Japanese American.

So maybe think of it as one of the AU elements of XI being that Sulu is now Korean or Japanese-Korean.

I mean killing Kirk's dead gave Chekov curly hair, why not =P

I have to admit though, I really don't see Cho either, but that's just because Takei was soooo distinct. I don't hear Cho either in my head. All fanfic lines are said in Takei's voice ^^;;;;

I think this is just one of those things I'm gonna have to get over. and, MAN, do I wish they'd taken his suggestion that Sulu's first name was Walter, or Bob or something. heh. Maybe I should just have Chekov calling him 'Bob'. XD

and, yes, that's another issue, with Takei being so distinctive. I think maybe also it has to do with, as far as I'm concerned, he's been far more visible lately, with Heroes and the things he's been doing for the gay community. I'm just more aware of him.

Well in non-canon, it now pops up in fanon as his middle name.
Chekov should totally have a special name for him. Something they both come up with while totally drunk *LOL*
Bob is also a great name for anything =P

*nods* Yeah, he's been out an about a lot, which makes it harder.

By the by, Anton Yelchin is totally made of win for correcting interviewers who say he's the first real Russian to play Chekov and pointing out Koenig's parents were Russian Jews from Lithuanian. He gets all defensive on Koenig's behalf and it's adorable because he's tiny and cute ^__^
