Okay, that game was insane. INSANE. So sad, though, that the US didn't get the gold. Yes, silver is good, especially since almost nobody gave the team any kind of chance going into the Olympics.

UGH. and seriously. Out of all the players on Team Canada, it had to be that donkey-lipped pig-fucker to score the GWG? ugh. Like we needed something else the NHL can use to shove him down our throats. He does almost nothing the entire tournament and decides to show up then? BOO. FUCK YOU, CROSBY.

but congratulations to the rest of Team Canada (except for Brodeur because I still hate him. and Pronger. He can fuck off, too). Especially you, Toews. You're adorable and I still love your little glee!face.

and Team USA...oh, boys. You were amazing, especially you, Ryan Miller. Maybe now you'll get the recognition you deserve. Parise, that is the only time I will ever be happy you scored a goal, so I'm glad it was a good one. Drury and Cally? You did us all proud. All of you did (yes, even you, Ryan Malone, although I still make it my life's mission to get you to wear an undershirt). The hockey world mocked the roster, questioned it, said the team would go nowhere. So much for what they all know. You took Canada to OT in a gold medal game. You played your hearts out. You showed the world what you were made of. As far as I'm concerned, you guys are the winners tonight. <333

I'm also a winner because the AMAZING [livejournal.com profile] girl_wonder finished my fic! I'd won her in the [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti auction, and she wrote me THE BEST STORY EVER: Paid the Price (to live with myself), which is a WWII hockey rps AU. I just. guh. GUH. SO AMAZING. Even if you're not into hockeyfic, you should read it because it's so so good. Especially if you're into the WWII stuff, like I know some of you are. ::draws sparkly hearts around the story::

And, hey, the US was the only team not to lose in regulation? GO THEM. I'm sad that they lost, but also so proud.

(Though, seriously, anyone but fucking Crosby.)

Please let Brian Burke be the GM of Team USA forever and ever the end. That man can pick out a hell of a team. Sad to lose the gold, but thrilled as fuck that we came away with silver. Fuck you, doubters. I'm really hopeful for 2014. ..why does it have to be four years away?

Edit to say that I was on the phone with my BFF Rangers fan friend from when I was a kid and we both agreed that we would rather have seen Rafalski turn around and slap a bomb into his own net than to see Crosby get that game-winner. I'm okay with pretty much everything about Canada winning except for that. That left a bitter taste in my mouth for the sole reason that you mentioned up there, the NHL will shove this down our throats non-stop.

All of the games this tournament made me wish the Olympics were on every year. I mean, yeah, World Championships, but they're barely comparable. OH, TEAM USA, I MISS YOU ALREADY.

I was saying to someone that I would've rather Miller stopped the puck, then turn around and kick it into the net than Crosby score. ugh. UGH UGH UGH.

I just have to know you made me LAUGH so hard just now, I kind of snorted. Because yeah, I hate the same players you hate, and like most of the ones you like. My friend J and I loathe Crosby with a fiery passion (and Brodeur, UUGH. At least Team USA got him yanked from the starting position in the prelims, yay!). When he scored, we were on the phone and she said 'oh god, NOT FUCKING NOSTRIL BOY!' Because that's what we call him. It's not a pet name. (She has in the past declared him to have the largest nostrils in the Western Hemisphere. Um, did I mention we both loooooathe the Pens? Yes.)

Anyway, ultimately, I was really proud of Team USA for getting within a GOAL of the gold medal when they were totally discounted as a decent team. I may not be big fans of most of the players on Team USA individually, but I was still awfully proud of their effort.

NOW BACK TO THE NHL, PLEASE? YAY.

Team USA getting Brodeur demoted to backup was seriously the highlight of the Games for me. HIGHLIGHT. I re-watched every goal scored on him for days.

I think this, along with the gold the USA won in the World Juniors, has really shown the world how far we've come in hockey development. WATCH OUT, CANADA. WE'RE COMING FOR YOU IN SOCHI.

YES, Brodeur having to sit on the bench after that game was so satisfying, the whole tournament could have ended right then, and I'd have been ECSTATIC. GAH. He's such a punk loser.

I do think USA Hockey has really, really come along, and I think they are improving leaps and bounds. YAY!

p.s. You can ask for anything! Which sounds very dirty, now that I think about it. SO BE IT. ;)

I just said the same exact thing to [livejournal.com profile] amberlynne, except with fewer words. Like, couldn't it have been Niedermayer? At least I like him.

Anyone - ANYONE - but him. I mean, I would've prefered they dress Brodeur as a skater and have him score the goal.

OH MY GOD, I NEARLY THREW UP WATCHING THAT GAME. It was an experience and while I'm on cloud nine now that it's over, I'm not eager to relive that experience again any time soon. My house was full of screams of agony and then screams of joy.

And Ryan Miller was a STAR. You guys should all be really damn proud of him (but I know you don't need me to say that).

I don't hate Crosby. In fact, I've always really kind of liked him so I'm beside myself that he scored the winner. But... I dunno... I wish he'd done more, though I am thrilled he eventually showed up. But I know I'm a minority in that respect, so I'll just sit in my lonely corner.

I've always liked Miller - except for when the Rangers play against him - so I am beyond thrilled that people are finally noticing how good he is.

Baby Staal could have scored. Or BOYLE. Or Iginla. Just... icky. :(

Thanks for the rec, hon. :)

This is not a trolling comment, so don't delete immediately.

I think Miller kept the US in the tourney. What Canada lacked was a goalie. That's going to have to be addressed.

Chris Pronger is 36, wtf is he doing playing international hockey? I just don't know. (Of course I love him from his Blues days.)

Have to disagree here. Good goaltending is essential in hockey and Miller was absolutely amazing, but today's game was the only one where the USA wasn't beating their opponent to all the pucks and out hustling everyone and that's what lead to them dominating this tournament, not Miller stealing games they didn't otherwise deserve to win.

Frankly I think USA was the better team, but Canada played the better game today ... and really that's what counted

Hi. You don't know me. I've been a hockey fan for probably longer than you've been alive considering the demo of lj. I never said Miller stole games. I think the other players' confidence in him lead them to play the way they did which won them games. He was the backbone of the team the entire tournament. Without him the US was toast. The same way the Brodeur lost Canada games.

How a person feels about the importance of goaltending in games is a big philosophical issue with hockey fans. *shake hands, walk away*

........I don't know quite what to say about this. You politely posted your opinion ... I politely posted a different opinion and yet somehow this upset you... ???

I'm glad you're old. May the rest of your days be better than this one seems to have been for you.

I'm not upset and I don't think what I said to you was offensive or deserved your sarcastic "I'm glad you're old" remark.

Today was a pretty damned good day for me since I'm Canadian.

I've come to think of it this way... there is Sidney Crosby THE PERSON and Sidney Crosby THE BRAND. Sidney the person I have no problem with... seems like a nice kid with the occasional lapse in judgement largely arbitrated his youth. But the BRAND I despise more than anything else in hockey because it is built on the premise that hockey fans are DUMB and that if you simply tell us that such-and-such player is an elite talent we will believe it despite stats, production, trophies and all evidence to the contrary.

For me, it's more like...I can respect the fact that he's a great player, but I still want to punch him every time I see his face. UGH. I've never disliked a player as much as I do him. It's not even like I *hate* him - I mean, I hate Pronger, and I *HATE* Jarkko Ruutu...no, I do hate him, but it's different. It's more like...disgust.

...I don't even know where I'm going with this now. HA.

um. TEAM USA!!!

I SO wish it had been Iginla (&hearts) :( Like, Crosby was totally mediocre through this whole tournament, and now he's getting all the fucking credit for that one goal -- boooo. I mean, what about Toews, people? or Perry? or Luongo?

Miller was totally awesome - the CTV commentators were saying that he should be named MVP for the tournament. It was a great game, but teams played really well

oh man, if it had been Iginla, I wouldn't feel even half as bad about the US losing. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. but, no, it had to be stupid Crosby. ugh. UGH UGH UGH. I thought both Toews and Nash were soooo much better in the game than he was - Toews was amazing in all of the games - I love him, too, and, oh man. If only it had been him who had scored! SIGH.
