I'm really fucking sick of people warning for slash.


(I'd typed this out and was about to hit 'post' when I realized this could be taken as commentary on the current musings going on about fandom. It's not. If you're hard-up for my opinion on that, it can be summed up thusly: don't be an asshat. Interpret that as you will.)

also, OMG YES YES YES. Why do people say that "fake cut" thing? WHYYYYYY? I saw one the other day that said "fake cut to youtube" Which for some reason struck me as EVEN STUPIDER than "fake cut to my journal"

When I was modding exchanges for a single pairing and they warned for slash and it was m/m, I was like THE WHOLE COM IS M/M, wtf are you warning for?

Well before the current events, I actually wrote a rant about people who warn for "pre-slash" when the whole story is about two boys falling in love, and who don't seem to know the difference; sort of this exact thing in reverse. Except I've always thought that that kind of thing should go into summary or notes, not a warning, because why would slash be a warning kind of thing anyway?

The 'reasoning' I've heard is that people crosspost to comms that accept all genres, and they don't want some poor homophobe stumbling across it by accident. To which I say, a) it should be fairly obvious by the pairings if it's slash or not; and b) fuck those people anyways.

It happens more than you'd expect in Asian-based fandoms especially. The other day Beth was just looking at a comm for some Asian drama series that had that exact rule in its info. T__T

Yeah, I suppose that's true. I guess I would say if you're going to warn for one, you should ALWAYS warn for the other, or just not at all. But also, you'd think just the pairing would make this clear? Lol.

I read this some days ago, and I've been thinking about it ever since. I include slash and het among my warnings, and now I'm rethinking doing that because of reading your post and the replies to it; the idea that I'm implying that I think there's anything morally wrong with slash or het horrifies me, and if I am I want to stop immediately.
