In 'fic that doesn't suck' news, Big Bang posting starts today, and you all NEED to drop everything and read We Flow Together (Once and Forever) by balefully. yes, yes, I did the art for it, but the reason I picked her story was because a) SHE WROTE A J2 SPLASH AU; b) it's Lucy and she is an amaaaaaaaaaaaazing writer; and c) DID I MENTION SPLASH AU?!?! I think she first threw out the idea for this story last year and I was IMMEDIATELY all over it, pestering politely inquiring about it from time to time, so when she said she was doing it for Big Bang, I was ECSTATIC. Go go GO and read and tell her how brilliant she is. :D

and in the world of ST fic:

Five Times Kirk Woke Up Alone In McCoy's Bed (And One Time He Didn't) by the_dala [Kirk/McCoy, R, 3400 words] - You may remember that this is the same author who did the BRILLIANT fic where the Enterprise crew has a pool on whether or not Kirk and Bones are fucking, and she has done it again. Fun and lovely and absolutely gorgeous.

Curls by emiime [Sulu/Chekov, NC-17, 1412 words] - Sulu is obsessed with Chekov's hair and, really, who could blame him? Very sweet and adorable. :D

Wordy McWord about c-u-m and the accent thing. I had a moment of wibbling when I first started writing Chekov, but ultimately decided against it, and I'm so glad because I read fics with the accent written out and am all ...uhno. And the c-u-m thing...I'm not even really sure who thinks that's okay. I mean, really. Ew.

and! The thing with the accent is so distracting! I always have to stop and think, 'wtf is he saying?', and by that point I'm out of the story and have lost all interest.

Cum is something that the HP fandom seemed to despise but I remember seeing it around a lot in other fandoms. I guess it's back.

I've seen it in all of my fandoms, but always on the fringes where the badfic lives. It's just surprising how many times it seems to have come up here.

It was common in Buffy if memory serves me right, and then its usage diminished. I don't know if it's a question of fandoms, timing or the fans themselves.

It was always cum in the old old fan fiction back when I was too young to be reading or writing it (meaning zine days)... and the old erotica I've read. *shrugs* Honestly either is fine with me... but I do think 'come' looks classier... or... something... but maybe I'm just a come whore? ;)

yes yes, and I think that's my main issue with it, that it reminds me of bad porn. Not that all of it was bad, but it seemed like a lot of it was. and so I always just associate it with bad writing.

Yeah, I agree with everything too. ESPECIALLY on Chekov's accent. I'm perfectly capable of imagining it, I don't need it spelled out for me! Plus I think when authors try to portray his manner of speaking with words and sentence structure, it turns out much more satisfying.

and, the thing with the accent is, if you're going to do it with Chekov, then why not all of them? Not to mention how distracting it is trying to figure out what he's saying.
