[livejournal.com profile] cidercupcakes is hosting a fun little elimination game of, basically, who is the most kickass female character ever. All fun, nothing serious, except. EXCEPT.

ELLEN MOTHERFUCKING RIPLEY IS LOSING.

I don't even have words for how WRONG that is. So I'm recruiting anyone reading this to go over there and RIGHT THIS TRAVESTY. and then make all of your friends do the same.

because, really, they should just bypass the voting and give the award to her. ♥_♥

I went to fill out that form but had to stop on Liz Lemon versus Laura Roslin. Whaaaaaaat I can't make that decision!!

Did you know that in the first couple drafts of Alien Ripley was a dude? (They were all dudes). I forget who's decision it was to make Ripley a woman, but it was definitely the right choice, and they didn't even have to change the dialogue. People flail and say they just don't know how to write female characters, but, like... it's not a huge difference. Alien did it. My usual mantra is just change the name but dude, they didn't even do that! (Well, her first name I guess).

I don't know what it means that one of the best/more kickass female characters of all time was originally written as a guy, but I do know that Alien would probably have been considered "a little gay" and not have done so well with a dude protagonist. I don't really have anything to back that up, but it's my gut feeling.

yah yah, written originally for a guy but Sigourney went in to read for it anyways and they were all, '...whoa. This could be awesome.' AND IT WAS.

Too bad almost 1000 people don't seem to realize that. BOOOO.
