HMMM. well, Kristen's an orphan - she's from the same planet as Jared, although from a different region, and her family was killed in the war. She started flying as part of the resistance movement, quickly becoming one of its top pilots. She was captured once and doesn't like to talk about it. Jared's pretty sure she was the only one in her squadron who came out of it alive. Despite the war - or maybe because of it and everything she had seen and been through - she has a greater appreciation for life and finding happiness where you can - which would explain why she doesn't understand Jared and how he ignores what he feels for Jensen.
